2020 - Block Lotto: String Blocks

Ugly Fat Quarter Challenge:  Feature your fat quarter in an item you make that is "SOMETHING YOU PUT SOMETHING IN".  The maximum size ix 24x36, the size of your large cutting mat.  We want to be able to display them all.

THIS YEARS SECRET SISTER RETREAT EVENT

Instructions:  FIRST this is absolutely voluntary!  If interested, please send an email to Becky Selby (mxkittens@gmail.com).  The Secret Sister Survey form will be sent to you.  Upon receipt of the Secret Sister Survey form, please fill out and return to Becky Selby.  You will then be advised by email the name of your secret sister.

Review your Secret Sister’s questionnaire thoroughly, and familiarize yourself with her favorites and interests.  Throughout the retreat, surprise your secret sister with treats and little gifts:

  • There must be three smaller gifts throughout the retreat before SATURDAY night (you can even start on Thursday night).

  • ON Saturday night, you will present the final gift and reveal yourself to your secret sister.

  • Total dollar value of all gifts must not be greater than $25.

Suggestions for first three smaller gifts:

  • Candy bar, snack or drink, tasty treats, tea bags or coffee $5 gift cards

  • One fat quarter or four 2 1/2-inch-wide noodles

  • Encouraging notes or cards

  • Little lotions, Chapstick or lip gloss, little candles

  • Note! - these gifts are not to be lavish gifts, but thoughtful gifts

On Saturday, your gift may be a small, handmade item (pin cushion, mug rug, etc) or a small notion around $8-12 (spool of thread, small ruler, nice seam ripper etc) or a magazine they may not have. This will be the last item you give your Secret Sister so you could even work on it during the retreat and she won’t even know it’s for her!!!

Stumped for gift ideas?  Pinterest can help and the more hand made the more appreciated, as it truly shows the thought behind the gifts.

If you have any questions please post to the forum, as many may have the same question, or contact Becky Selby  - Deadline to send your request is Friday, November 22nd.

See Secret Sisters Pictures under Pictures & Videos tab.

Potholder Challenge

Jelly Bargelly with Ellen Born
the quilt is approximately 56" x 81" with borders

FABRIC requirements for Jelly Bargello:

51 Jelly Roll strips ( 2 1/2" strips) OR
1/3 yd of 17 fabrics OR
17 Fat Quarters
Border fabric is NOT necessary for class but if you want to plan ahead, you will need:
Inner border: 1/2 yd
Outer border: (62) Charm squares OR 1 1/4  yd. fabric
Binding: 2/3 yd.

NOW, those strips you are going to need, you will need 17 sets of 3 strips that measure 2 1/2" x WOF (width of fabric).  [Please precut these. ]

for Fat Quarters.... Cut 6 strips at 2 1/2" x 21" from 17 fabrics.

for 1/3 yd fabrics....cut 3 strips at 2 1/2" x WOF (width of fabric)

for Jelly rolls...add enough strips to make 51 total strips in sets of three.      If using a jelly roll you will most likely need to add to your jelly roll , first because you don't have enough strips, and second, to get 17 sets of 3.

-Left/Right STORY game where we pass left and right.  In the past we have used FQ's, but we want to do something different this time.

We want to pass and exchange MUG MATS.  You know, a small finished block that could be used for a mug or cup or glass.  The minimum size is 4" x 4"  and maximum size is 6" x 6".  They can be round or square, or even a rectangle.  They can have bound or turned edges.  They can be pieced or applique. Make a label or SIGN them on the back someway, so we will know who made them.
